Does Your Figure Skating Club Do Anything Special for Advancing Skaters?

Does Your Figure Skating Club Do Anything Special for Advancing Skaters?

US Figure Skating’s Regional competitions are about half over and terrific figure skaters from all over the U.S. have qualified for Junior Nationals or Sectionals. After November, we’ll have figure skaters who will have qualified for the National Championships.

This is a huge deal. To those figure skaters who are moving on out of Regionals: Congratulations. You have worked very hard and it shows.

To parents of figure skaters who are advancing out of Regionals: You must be so proud. I wrote a post before Regionals began about how clubs send off their Regional competitors. [object Selection] Many clubs host an exhibition, give out club jackets, and serve cake.bunch of balloons

For your Junior Nationals, Sectionals, and National Championships competitiors, is the send-off a bit more special? Does anyone give these competitors money to finance their trip? Do you have a plaque hanging in the entrance way? Is there a banner over the rink door?

Today’s post is pretty short (food poisoning last night – ugh), but I think that a lot of clubs are wondering the same thing.

Does your club do anything to sponsor your Junior Nationals, Sectionals, or National Championships figure skaters? Do you hold a raffle or car wash to help fund their trip? Do you etch their name in a plaque? Do you have a send-off just like Regionals? Please share your festivities and suggestions in the comments. If you have an antacid, I’ll take that, too.

Last year, my club held a fund raiser to help our only skater who advanced from regionals to nationals. She was featured prominently on the rinks website and the club’s website.

And of course, there was financial support for travel and coaching expenses at nationals.
