It’s Figure Skating Regionals Brag Time!

It’s Figure Skating Regionals Brag Time!

All of the U.S. Figure Skating Regionals (the first round of qualifying competitions) are finished and I believe those happening elsewhere around the world have finished, too.

If your figure skater placed well, it’s time to celebrate! If your figure skater met his goals, it’s time to celebrate that, too! If your figure skater went out on the ice, competed, and didn’t turn into a pile of mush, that’s worth a shout out!

Fireworks with Full MoonIf your figure skater didn’t compete because of illness or injury, please let us know how you consoled him and if he’s feeling better. Just skip the questions below that don’t apply to your situation.

For those of you who don’t have Regionals skaters, feel free to brag about your skater’s latest and greatest accomplishment, on the ice, off the ice, in competition, or in practice.

I know that in the U.S., dance and pairs don’t compete at Regionals; rather, they compete at Sectionals right away. If you have one of these skaters (or you are one of these skaters), please fill out the form anyway! We want to cheer you on!

Please copy and paste this form into the comments (the weird HTML stuff, too). To post a photo in your comments, make sure you have a URL (web address) that includes the html:// part. Copy and paste the whole thing into the comment. It should work.Longwood Fireworks Show

Fireworks FinaleGood luck to those figure skaters who advanced to Sectionals! Good luck to those skaters who are out of the national qualifying competitions and have moved on to international competition! You should be proud of your hard work.

For more information about U.S. Figure Skating’s qualifying competitions, check out USFSA’s Bracket Banner and  Regional Map. For information about who in the U.S. is moving on to qualifying competitions, check out Unseen Skaters Online and IceNetwork.com.

If you live outside the U.S., could you please post a comment about where we can find information about your country’s figure skating system and who advanced to the next level of qualifying competition? Thanks!

    Hadley

She turned 10 years old 2 days before Regionals

    Juvenile Freestyle:

    New England/b>

    The Matrisb>

    9th in the Qualifying Roundb>

Regionals- cleanest performance of the year>

What advice would you give skaters who will compete at next year’s Regionals go for it!

I thought her coach (a guy) was going to cry when he told me how proud he was of her…it was a really really tough year and they pushed her, alot, and a few times she shined and a few times she fell apart and this time– the most important time, she pulled of the best performance ever. She knew ONLY axel one year ago, and had only competed with it once, and from January to Regionals, she learned through to double lutz, passed 2 MIF and 3 FS tests, had recurring skate issues, and an injury. So yes, just having the best performance ever at barely 10 was quite an accomplishement.

What jump/spin/other cool stuff is your skater working on?

    Skater’s name (optional): Jordie

    Skater’s age: 11

Skater’s figure skating level and discipline: juvenile ice dance

What region and country does the skater compete in? Canada (I’m Jordie’s big sister, and our mom won’t let me put the section. I wanted to brag about her lol)

What music does the figure skater have for the long and/or short programs? I really couldn’t tell you lol. The pieces were pretty with a strong beats to them, but then so were all the others…it’s an ice dance rule!

How did the skater do at Regionals/last competition (indicate which one) 1st!!!! Off to Nationals – very proud!!

What was the best thing about Regionals/last competition (indicate which one) To see my sister doing so well out there – it brought tears to my eyes when they read their scores <3

What advice would you give skaters who will compete at next year’s Regionals? Go for it – and dont let your partner "take care" of your tights!!!
What jump/spin/other cool stuff is your skater working on? This cool drapey lift thing where her partner picks her up and turns her upside down – its awesome!!!!

Other comments about Regionals/Sectionals/other competitions Well it was a really eventful day!!! I was about 20 miles away playing ringette in another city, and we'd all agreed as a family that my dad (we only live with him) would go to sectionals with Jordie because he's seen millions of my ringette games and Jord and her partner worked so hard to get to sectionals, so he would go and watch, and as luck would have it Jord wasn't skating until much later, so i could get there in time. I took about 4 buses to get to the rink to see Jord, and she was crying because her tights were all laddered thanks to her partner saying he'd hold them for her(ever the gentleman), and her coach was like "no one will see under the dress" but the rips were all over her feet, and has someone who has been wearing skates the past 13years i could see that would be AGONY, even though i'm not a figure skater, so i ran off to the store that was really near, like at the end of the street, and bought another pair of tights for her. I got back just as the team before her started their routine thingy, and though she complained about the type they were, the coach was like "for gods sake its one competition!" so she put them on. She just finished as they were announcing her and her partner, and she was barely ready, and they were freaking out in case they wouldnt do well because she was "unsettled" but it was their best ever performance and they won <3 I'm so happy for her!!!

Pre juv? You have pre-juv at regionals?

  • Juliette

You are a lovely sister, Kym – I can’t recall my sister making an effort to come to any of my competitions! Congratulations to your sister Jordie – sounds as if she did a great job under pretty difficult circumstances. Love to you both xx

  • Sk8_Sister :D

OMG, my brother does ice dancing and we heard about the tights girl!!!!! But she wasn’t named Jordie…is that a nickname???

  • http://icemom.net Ice Mom

You are a terrific sister, Kym! It was so nice of you to run down the street for more tights! I can tell you’re very proud of her. Please tell her congratulations and good luck at *Nationals!*

  • http://icemom.net Ice Mom

Holy cow! That’s a lot of progress in one year! You must be very proud of your skater’s hard work!

  • http://icemom.net Ice Mom

In Upper Great Lakes, we have pre-juv at Regionals, too. I think out West they even have lower-level non-qualifying events.

  • Anonymous

Yes…I am very proud of her. They decided to go without the double lutz at regionals, as she was still nervous about it and it tended to color her whole program. She competed with it once, and the regional program looked nicer overall without it. But for some reason, our Juveniles are not out on Ice Network yet.

  • Anonymous

We had a non-qualifying competition too but there were no QRs, and since the poster said she was working on 3Sal, and 2A, I wondered if the pre-juv was a mistake as well.

  • Anonymous

Laddered….love it! Such a British word.

  • Kym

Hi. :) Yeah, it’s a nickname. Seriously, you would be amazed if i told you what her real name was…it’s so different!!! (but my mom will flip if i put it here. She hates the internet and thinks that the second you put your name on it you’ll be stalked or burgled or something) Anyway it’s good to know my sister made herself known lol! :) xxx

  • http://icemom.net Ice Mom

Oh. Yeah. I don’t know about that.

  • Kym

    Thank you :) xxx

  • Anonymous

Oh, I meant to post this picture…and I am confident none of you will stalk her (grin…joshing with Kym)

  • Kym

    I’m Canadian lol.

  • Kym

But yeah, I first heard that word in England when I was with my cousins etc. so…

  • Jozet

Ack! I posted my response and it was eaten by the Internets!

The most important part was that next year, we’re all bringing IceMom dot net stickers to pass out. Or how about t-shirts! :-D

  • http://icemom.net Ice Mom

Great photo. Dang. Now my left leg hurts…

  • Anonymous

LOL really, I couldn’t even hold my leg like that leaning up against a wall, let alone spinning on an ice skate!

  • Anonymous

I am waiting for the video to come out. Of course, something is wonky with NE– the senior down to intermediate has been up for days, but Juvie is MIA

  • Jozet

I know! They are taking forever!

Also, evidently, Madeline fell twice – once on a spiral and once on a 2toe loop. Not sure how I missed that. I’m waiting for the video.

I’d like to brag on our friend, Jack, who skates at our rink and took Novice men first place at South Atlantics, and his brother, Graham, who took second overall in Intermediate. Jack is 15 and has a triple lutz. They are both so talented and are the nicest kids, too!

  • Anonymous

my IceBoy competed against Jack last year, and we saw his brother skate at Juvenile, both at Junior Nationals. I agree, talented skaters!

  • Anonymous

Our region has non-qual at Regionals every year. Starting at non-test.

  • Anonymous

Still not up!! Hadley had an anomoly too….she got level 1 on the opening spin….got level 3 on past 2 competitions and frankly did it better at regionals. So we (her, I and coach) are anxiously awaiting the videos too!

  • Jozet

Drat..I keep trying to post my reply, and it won’t post for some reason.

Ah well…Madeline came in 10th Juvenile QR with a 28.54 and a +1GOE across the board on her level 2 combination spin. First time at Juvenile level, and like Hadley, was skating much lower last year. Last October, she was at No Test.
